ORMGP Program Co-Manager/Senior Hydrogeologist

With a passion for leading Ontario to improve water-related management decisions, for the past 25 years Steve has overseen the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program (ORMGP).

With a focus on careful, comprehensive and active data management, the ORMGP makes data, along with interpretations, knowledge and insights, available via the ORMGP web portal. The goal is to build and maintain a long-standing and trusted geological and hydrological framework model, a legacy for Ontario. Steve has a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and an M.Sc. degree from the University of Alberta. Professionally, Steve has served as president of the Canadian Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists and has also contributed as a member of the technical committee for Ontario’s Source Water Protection initiative and as a member/author on the Council of Canadian Academies’ 2009 report on the Sustainable Management of Groundwater in Canada.

ORMGP Program Co-Manager/Senior Hydrogeologist

Rick is currently a Senior Hydrogeologist and Co-Manager for the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program, a now widely recognized leading-edge program in groundwater management focussed on much of south-central Ontario.

He obtained his undergraduate degree in Earth Sciences at the University of Waterloo and graduate degrees in Hydrogeology at the University of Toronto. His expertise gained through research and consulting activities focuses on:

  • groundwater flow and solute transport characteristics of relatively low-permeability porous media (aquitards);
  • delineation and quantification of regional groundwater flow systems;
  • groundwater recharge; and
  • groundwater-surface water interaction.

Present projects involve understanding and quantifying the flow system for watersheds situated within south-central Ontario on behalf of various levels of government including conservation authorities, regional municipalities, the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario. This regional flow system understanding provides the foundation for water resources planning, particularly as related to the requirements of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and the Ontario Clean Water Act.

Integrated Groundwater Management Engineer/Geoscientist

Mason Marchildon is an engineer and hydrologist specializing in regional-scale hydrologic modelling and hydro-ecological analysis. He serves as the Integrated Groundwater Management Engineer for the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program.

Mason manages more than 80 regional groundwater and hydrologic models developed primarily through Ontario’s Source Water Protection program. He works with conservation authorities and municipalities to apply these models in assessing groundwater systems and evaluating potential environmental impacts associated with climate change and land-use development.

Mike Doughty is a GIS Specialist and Hydrogeologist who has been with the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program for twenty years. Having considerable coding and database skills, Mike also oversees the development and management of the program’s comprehensive data and information system.

He received his graduate degrees at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. Mike has also been an instructor for senior undergraduate and graduate GIS courses at the University of Toronto for the past thirty years.

Groundwater Management Analyst

Britt started her environmental career in Northern Ontario working as a wildlife biologist and naturalist.

In 2016 she returned to the GTA as a project manager developing watershed flood risk assessments for the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority. Britt joined the ORMGP team in 2017 and currently works as a Groundwater Management Analyst.
